Thank you for that Merc and 45, I need all the encouragement I can get as things took another nosedive today. I tried to get all the misery in one picture so here goes:

The "reconditioned" suspension arm ( black one) is fucked and the reason for leakage is clear, it's rusty and pitted badly where the seal bears on it. (Under the 'flange' as it were.) Fortunately the spare one originally fitted to the van is good in this regard.
The wheel bearing race (ball type) propped on top and also from the overhauled axle are absolutely bolloxed; that anyone would clean, regrease and reassembly something in this state makes me wonder if these are unobtainable.
Those loose needle rollers are a nightmare to catch and will be great fun to get back in because the shaft must be assembled (press fitted) against the considerable pressure of the coil spring. I ain't showed you the coil spring or it's strange rocker mechanism yet, can't have too much excitement in one post.
I've got to claw the off-side units to bits as though it doesn't leak I know it will be buggered.

That looks a real quality 'refurbishment' that part has had.

It's time to finish the thread I started nearly 3 years ago in Autoshite. Here's the nearly finished item. There's some bits left to do like a headlining in the cab but I've had enough for now, and its usable.

That's the seat cover that's made all wrong, but I can't be arsed to sort it out. I also can't find the correct profile for the windscreen seal and it will need changing again for the 3rd time. The paintwork is shit because that's the only finish I do.

Fantastic. That looks just right.

It doesn't have to be perfect or you would be frightened to use it.

I'll say again how bloody right that colour looks. There is a bloke in town with a J Type in that shade of Post-War Nationalisation. It really doesn't need to be any "better" than that....

Cracking job that is, proper flat-cap and braces van. Needs a thin trail of blue oil-smoke to follow it everywhere!

I don't know what the life expectancy of the pre-slant 1600s are. Thanks for the compliments, I look at the paint and feel they're over generous.

It's shiny and looks smooth, what more would you want?

It looked good enough in person to me.
