My slightly knackered old cars

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

That L200 didn't look too bad to weld up, looks like the only tricky but it's going to be the bed support.
Is the engine ok? It sounded slightly off in the video but my phone sound is crap.

Killed the un-killable

The Camry died.

It cut out on a wet roundabout and wouldn't restart so had to A-frame it with the 505. Had a quick look and it doesn't seem to be getting spark, the coil is inside the distributor and looks a little bit rusty, tested with a multimeter and seemed like the likely culprit.

My Aprilia passed its mot after replacing the chain, tyre and a couple of other bits and pieces. It ran out of mot in July and I've been considering selling it lately but it's probably the wrong time of year to be selling a bike. I hadn't driven it in a while and drove it to the mot last week and it really is great fun to rag around, it'll rev above 11k and smells phenomenal burning the 2 stroke oil!

The Chevette is finally rust free and (many shades of) one colour, a friend said he'd come up one day and respray if properly for me but I'm happy enough with it as it is for now.

Carried out some towing with the LDV taking the 205 to a local garage to do all of the fiddly jobs I can't be bothered with such as changing the clutch cable and swapping the rear beam.

Mot is out on the 505 so started making preparations for its test next week and found some rot to deal with.

Should be straight forward making repair panels but it is a worry welding next to a plastic fuel tank so have jammed some wood in to try shielding it from sparks of molten metal.

What you want is some nice asbestos roofing sheet, or failing that a heat proof mat as used by plumbers.

New coil fitted to the Camry and it's back in action.

Old one looked quite rusty.

Fired right up and driving fine.

More welding done on the 505, made up the inner panel first.

And made an outer panel which still needs a bit of dressing and paint.

I discovered that the Skoda was leaking oil at an alarming rate and after checking the oil level found it was showing as over-filled on the dipstick.

Knowing what the likely issue would be I drained the oil and removed the mechanical fuel pump from the side of the engine, the diaphragm had perished and was leaking petrol into the engine causing the oil level to increase and the oil to become thin enough to leak out of every seal!
I fitted a new fuel pump, filter and oil filter and changed the oil which made a massive difference.
Also fitted a generic chrome air filter as it was missing the original air filter housing and has had an SU carb chucked on there.

Next job was to replace the wiper stalk.

New stalk came with strange foreign coffee biscuit.

I took it for a drive around town, seems to be going a lot better.

I even took some rubbish to the recycling centre and got some bemused looks from the staff as I emptied the rubbish out from under the bonnet.
