But isn't that the point?
No, it doesn't have a point. The sparks are made by witchcraft. And they spark in vain, because there is no cylinder filled with a combustible gas a piston within could be forced away by from the source of said spark due to that.
It's all happening, or usually not, in a time you don't live in.

They were out but not about, certainly not in my manor.

I once wrote an article on them and the humourless mOwners Club took out a hit on me. There was hell on.

Majority of the troubles of these isn't loss of compression it's weak coil packs and tired starter motors. Weak coils cause it to struggle to start and also washes the boundary layer oil off. Tired starters can't spin the engines around quickly enough to get it running.

The other major problems is that, like every good Japanese car, they suffer badly from rust.

I always thought that uprated coil packs and starters were just put on to squeeze a bit more life from worn engines or is that just pub talk?

Not sure on either tbh. Might be a bit of truth in both. Starts ok after a short crank when cold. Seemed to start ok when hot. Makes a glorious, fragile stroker noise that takes me straight back to the 70s. Braaappp
