When I worked in a Unipart service garage, their system was brilliant for cross referencing part numbers and brands to learn what fitted what. It was amazing the same part that went into all kinds of brands with no apparent manufacturer tie-up.

I've found a link to the correct microswitches, so I'll repair my old one.

Some of us have nothing better to do that watch this threads for updates. And are consequently getting a bit impatient.

You're fitting a new one? I thought you were rebuilding the old one?

This jag isn't drive-by-wire is it?

Yes, Yes & Kind of....

I'm getting a second hand switch to put in, that'll prove I was right & fix it. I can then fix the old one at my leisure as a spare while I'll still got a working car.

It's drive by wire although it's got a throttle cable to the throttle body! The cable only connects to a TPS, the butterfly is driven by a motor controlled by that TPS. There is then a second TPS that monitors the butterfly's position, it appears to have been the two TPS disagreeing that caused it to keep 'disconnecting' the throttle constantly. Only the TPS for the butterfly can be got separately & that'd be changed without fixing the fault.

Don't you love technology?

I'll tell you what though, even though it's only getting short trips I can feel it learning the new TB. It's more responsive on small throttle movements, sounds better* (more V8 & less blower whine), the gearbox is changing smoother (linked to the engine learning the TB I'm sure) and the MPG is going up a bit (14mpg to 15.5mpg so far).

*I like the blower whine, but it's a known thing with these that the blower whine is louder when they aren't running right.

Well the switch arrived yesterday. It's two microswitches, one wired to be 'always on' when the brakes aren't in use & the other as 'always off'. Useless info - the 'always on' switch uses the outer two wires in the multiplug.

Anyway I metered the two switches out, both work identically and there is no difference in resistance I could find. Which makes it very odd that the replacement switch has fixed the fault...

The switch -

Goes here (white multiplug) so you have to work blind laid over the seat on your back to get the open slot on to it's top mount -
