It's all pretty & spray undersealed as far back as the rear axle box. I had a look underneath today when I took it back for the brake noise. Turns out that was a stone & a bent splash guard, I've never known a stone stay in for over 100miles before.

I gave it a squirt & then flicked the cruise on at 70 & left it there, except for the bits of the M62 limited to 60 because they were pretending the gritters were out. I don't bother rushing on main roads, too many cameras & no fun. I did overtake someone in a new XJ between the pub & the M62 on the way back. He was driving embarrassingly slowing for a Jag so it had to be done.

Before it went in the RH bank was trimming about 10% rich from the ODBII readings, when I cleared the codes earlier both banks were about 19% rich. I'm assuming/hoping it'll behave better once it retrims it's self. I could speed that up by disconnecting the battery but doubt I'll actually bother to carry a spanner that far.

Re: Supercharging the climate with a XJR V8 - I opened the bonnet

Post by Hooli »

Today I opened the bonnet to look at the welding while I regapped the plugs (I set them wrong months ago trying to fix a funning issue as it was suggested on a few forums).

I can see where all the welding went now. It wasn't just the seams I though going down the inner wing, but the ones going along where it curves up at the outside to go up to the outer wing which looked fine before they started. I need to get in there with rust killer & paint as it's not been done - disappointing when it's so neat underneath. Ideally it needs seam sealer, but I don't have any. Is that stuff just brush on or is there lots of prep for it?

I'll get pics next time as it was getting dark.

Has worked quite nicely as seam sealer on the Disco of Doom for the last 5 years.
I doubt that you will take the Climate Change Jag through some of the things the Disco of Doom goes through.
(want to see photos if I'm wrong!)

Pitchers of derustification for you all. I've treated them with kurust and then got distracted and washed the car. I'll paint them tomorrow then seam sealer once it's dry.

I'm puzzled - in my experience the rust should go black yet there's loads of rust brown areas.
Are these the pre kurust pics?

Aye those are the pre-kurust pics. I didn't bother with post ones as they are the same but with black n white bits. Plus it's right untidy as I used too much to make sure it got into the joins so no rust is hidden & sealed in to start again.
