EBay Finds
Re: EBay Finds
What in Gods name posses people to hack the roof off old cars to make wank open top cars. They can't even be arsed making a roof for them. Or realize "Dur, I fink this might be a bit 'arder than choppin the roof off wiv a Sthil saw" then try and flog it as an unfinished project to some other halfwit who thinks he'll just put a roof on, if it doesn't fold in half in the meantime. If you need an open top car in your life, just pay your £250 on an astra/R8/escort etc. Tit.

Re: EBay Finds
They see it on American Hotrod or sum such and think they can do it too.
What they don't realise is that it only looks easy on telly.
Seen what Rick Dore works from?
He found this pile of shit in the desert, bullet and other holes and all:
And this is the car now:
Can you imagine the blood, sweat and tears involved?
There is no secret to nice cars. It's just a mountain of hard work.
And exactly that is what those people don't understand.

More roof hackage.
https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1088297 "The Opel P1 is based on a 1959 Olympia Rekord three-door station wagon (known as a Caravan). In the early 1970s, team from the Shell Oil Company converted it into a single-seater by hacking away the bodywork aft of the front seats, and lowering what was left of the roof and the windshield.
1959 Opel P1 experimental prototype gas-mileage record-holder
?
The 1.5-liter pushrod four-cylinder engine was fitted with a tiny Tillotson lawnmower carburetor and mounted in the rear.
The radiator was eliminated, with cooling provided by simply letting the water boil. The engine itself was wrapped in insulation to keep it operating at the highest possible temperature.
The modified engine drove a pair of rear wheels that were moved close together to eliminate the differential; drive was a simple chain and sprocket. All suspension was also removed.
Cosmopolitan Motors claims the car remains in running condition, but given its lack of suspension and choked engine, it probably wouldn't be much of a joy to drive on the street, as this Shell Opel website notes.
Despite its record-holder status, the Opel P1 hasn't found any buyers willing to pay its $425,000 asking price--even after more than three years.
It's an interesting car, but seemingly not that interesting."
Even the advertiser seems a bit sceptical about selling it at this price.

Re: EBay Finds
The original F series Victor was better to drive than a Cambridge of that era. Too bad they usually rusted away so soon, when I was a kid it was commonplace to see them driving about with large holes rotted out high up in the bodywork. I think I read that the steel in some places received no coating at all.

Re: EBay Finds
This is an early Victor and a rare standard model. Note the bare screen rubber and general lack of chromium. I have been after one for years - enquiries have been made.
As for the intellectually challenged 'enthusiasts' butchering perfectly nice saloon cars, wouldn't it be better for them to end up run over first or otherwise asphyxiated in the garage before they could start their evil work?

Re: EBay Finds
I eagerly await further postage about this. There's no doubt in my mind that very little work is required and that you must go ahead and buy it.fried onions wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 8:22 pm This is an early Victor and a rare standard model.
