The Smell. It's all in your mind.SiC wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 4:33 pm Getting in, I wasn't greeted with the strong smells like last time. In fact thinking back I don't remember smelling any cigarettes. This is despite it being sat in the sun. Perhaps the run out on Tuesday with the fresh air through has helped remove the stagnant air? I think some of the smell that I associated with cigarettes is actually the horse hair stuffed seats (if they have them). My mind possibly associates old furniture with that. Definitely has been a smokers car previously but the ozone generator and fresh air has removed that as the original overwhelming smell.

Maybe it was driving you to fags. I had a Zodiac that did that.

Never smoked. Well I tried it at school but thought it was shit.
Probably for the best, I get addict to the slightest thing. I say that as I'm stuffing more sugary crap into my gob.

Re: 1985 BMW E28 520i
Tried it when I was 12. Took me till 13 to get the hang of it, mind. Packed up properly when I met Mrs Rocker the Third. Apparently it killed her Dad (his smoking, not mine) and she couldn't stand the smell of fags. Jacked cold turkey one weekend on the Isle of Wight, probably one of the best weekends of my life so I thought it was a good time to do it. That was 17 years ago.....
The first time I gave up was 1987 when my nipper came along. Didn't last long - I spent too much money buying a Zodiac I didn't need and there was a Marlboro red left in a packet on the parcel shelf so I just smoked it on the way home and bloody started again.

Re: 1985 BMW E28 520i
Clutch fluid level has dropped again.
I thought it was the remote clutch reservoir or its pipe, but there appears to be a spot left on the floor. It's right around the bell housing, so almost certain from that. It dropped about a centimeter in the reservoir
Hopefully it's just the slave, rather than the super expensive master or difficult to get hold of flexi. I can pick the slave up from a local GSF for £20. Won't really know until I get back underneath and have a look.

It’ll be the slave cylinder. Easy to replace, can be a twat to bleed. Clamp the flexy before you remove it and pressure bleed it. DO NOT pedal pump it!

Re: 1985 BMW E28 520i
Looks like to me it's leaking at the front of the clutch slave. Can't be massive as it doesn't leak loads. Probably 25ml ish after a 30 minute drive on back roads in countryside working the pedal a lot.
Stuffed some paper up there to stop dripping all over the drive.
Can't quibble at this price. I imagine it's shared with loads of other BMWs too. Hopefully it should be the right fit but so far everything from GSF has been (I've tempted fate haven't I!). Only standard is the available for immediate collection from my local GSF branch. Premium I'd have to order and have posted in. So standard it is!

Funnily enough I was just going to mention that I didn't want to pedal pump it. Really don't want to risk even a slight chance of damaging that super expensive and rare master cylinder. The Reverend Bluejeans wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 2:35 pm It’ll be the slave cylinder. Is it possible to gravity bleed these?
I don't think my pressure bleeder has the right cap for this unfortunately. The cap on the old reservoir won't seal to butcher that. I have got a crappy Chinese suction bleeder kicking around somewhere too.

Re: 1985 BMW E28 520i
Thinking about it, possibly bolt on the hydraulic line and then gravity bleed it while it's hanging off at its lowest point. Then once the air is out of the line, bolt it to the box.
