Re: That awful colour MGB GT
Considering the UK was a world leading country in both automotive and electronics, it's ridiculous that someone like SU didn't come up with an affordable injection system and took it to market. So many British cars would have had a lot better reliability if someone like SU came out with even a rudimentary analogue TBI system with spark ignition controlled by it. Completely do-able back in the 70s and early 80s technology.

I think that they did.
It's a long time since I read about it and I can't remember where, probably in Cars and Car Conversions or Car.

That does sound better. Maybe the distributor was causing a lot of noise. If it's snagged the wire yes, it'll definitely have been causing odd timing problems. Surprised the specialist didn't catch that.

Re: That awful colour MGB GT
The specialist looked at my spark assisted setup then asked what I wanted to do with it and if I wanted it tuned. I told them that I was replacing it with a 123 and not to bother. So tbf they weren't expecting to touch it. However I would have expected them to notice the hesitation.
Just been out for a drive. A lot smoother on accelerating and feels more keen. Doesn't feel overly powerful up hills but I'm probably not readjusted from my other cars yet. Also more keen to rev higher. Previously it ran out of puff around 4k and didn't want to push much further than than that. Now it quite happily revved to 5k and probably could have pushed it further if I needed to.
Starting up is a blip of the key now. Idle tad high at 1k now it's had a chance to let some fresh air through its lungs.

All very positive things indeed. I reckon just get it dialed in and you'll be finding just how much better it drives.
No, it's not modern but they weren't too bad, overall.
I wouldn't mind electronic points for mine.

Re: That awful colour MGB GT
Specialist said the clutch flexi was bulging. Debating whether I can be bothered to change it yet or not before going to Haynes on Sunday. I've got a new one here, just the slaves can be hassle to bleed.
Sods law it'll give me issues on Sunday though. If I jack it up to inspect it, I might as well get on with changing it too.

If it's like the Midget one then jack the back of the car up as they won't bleed with the front higher than the rear due to the angle of the slave.

Or remove it and let it dangle from the pipe, the cylinder fills up and bleeds fairly well that way. It's just a pain to do

I think last time I took the slave off and did it that way. Somewhere in the AS thread.

Re: That awful colour MGB GT
Did you have to email haynes with details of the car when you booked ? My email said I had to let them know at some other email address which I did but just realised they never replied. I better dig the DKW out and give it a run before the weekend
