In the early 1980s the Mayor's chauffeur was alleged to be one of the highest paid members of staff at the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council. This was apparently because his employment contract gave him his basic pay, but all the out of hours stuff (evenings and weekends) was overtime, either at time and a half or double time on top. Plus he was the Standard Bearer, when required and occasionally did barman duty in the Mayor's parlour.

They did get the contract changed to something less generous when he retired.

Stamford's current Mayor drives a 107, but her and her husband also own a 1980s Corolla that I had a hand in painting, a Sherpa van, a Zephyr, a mini, a Massey grey and an old mini as well as some BSA bantams

the Lord Mayor of Manchester (not Burnham) has a Volvo S90 at his disposal, with the private plate N10. It gets replaced with a new Volvo every few years.
