Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Let us know how you get on Phil.
I’ve been following the ‘What did you do today’ thread, hoping for some joyous update that the Pontiac and your house are pretty okay (all things considered).

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Right now I'm working remotely from Texas. My house has a tarp to keep the worst of the weather out. The roof is leaking through between the plywood sheets, down the rafters and into the corners of the roof, down the structure.
You might have seen on the news the video of the hospital roof flying away? Well, my wife don't got a job now.
We're planning on staying out for as long as possible, until the power is on; that's looking to be somewhere around the end of the month. I then need to dry the house out, clear the mold, get the roof fixed... Etc.
Ain't gonna be fun. Looking at the numbers the Pontiac will probably end up for sale. Shit happens.

What are your long term plans Phil?
Will you be moving somewhere safer permanently?

The phrase is "somewhere else", here. There is always something that'll try destroy everything no matter where you move to.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
So the various disaster relief funds won't help enough, if at all, if you're considering selling the Pontiac?
Given the scale of the disaster I wouldn't be surprised if Jerome Powell wasn't pressurised to get the Fed throwing money out there. There's now evidence with things like the Bounce Back Loans here that strategies like that and Helicopter money can work.

Sorry to hear how things are looking, Phil. We take an awful lot for granted sometimes.

Right now I don't have the answer to those questions.
But hey, proceedings are rolling through. Claim is in for the house. Need to look at the cars and see what's up there and make a decision on what needs claims and what doesn't.

Sorry Phil, I guess that it must feel that you've got a light shining in your eyes and being bombarded with them when you've got your hands full with real life.
Good luck in sorting all the shit out.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Well, there may be a little bit of light.
The garage was assembled in frame side sections (sides, front, back) then the roof triangulation added on top.
Seems the roof got pulled up like a kite, up and mostly off to the rear of the house, then the back wall fell over, and the side wall fell in. The lean-to is still together on the far side, holding the wall up.
Renault has some metal roof sheeting sitting on it and some other debris but appears unscathed. Plymouth, doesn't look like the windshield broke. Roof will be dented, the side if the garage is resting on it.
Will need to have a big rope-and-pull session to lift it up and over.
