Re: What did you do today?
Nope bearings are dry. I think someone rattle canned a starter up and chucked in a box as reconditioned. My friend I bought it off was fuming. He tried to do a return on it but the seller has "mysteriously" disappeared of eBay. Hardly the end of the world and I'm not bothered by it. More worried my friend will think I'm going to moan about it whenever it goes wrong! I'm gone into this fully understanding my wallet is going to get severely raped, but a cx is my dream car. I lost my parents as a kid and a cx was the last car they owned.

Re: What did you do today?
Been foooking about with the rear brakes on the Matiz. Amazingly, the nut on the main brake pipe to flexible on the o/s/r actually undid. So why didn't the knob that foooked the system up not simply replace the flexible, wheel cylinder and shoes (about £40) rather than creating a death trap ?.
Even better was the n/s/r wheel cylinder brake pipe came undone, something is going to go tits when I actually start rebuilding those brakes next weekend, isn't it ?

Re: What did you do today?
Picked up in the yard and started dismantling the bits of roof that are no more good and need to be out of the way in order to clear the rest.
I got proper sunburned too. This morning, woken up early by the dogs, it's foggy and moderately cool (20c) and I heard again a noise pass behind my head a couple times. Looked up and I'm being buzzed by little bats out hunting for early morning bugs.

There's some densely wooded area at the back of this house (we're with friends in Mississippi still) that they seem to like.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 4:22 pm You want to encourage those bats!

I'm able to work remotely which is good, but yesterday I had to just put the phone down. Luckily my boss said "if it's not me don't answer it", which was handy.
There's no days off right now, it's 24/7.

Finally got the garage cleared again and put the AMC back in
I had to rig up something to stop the exhaust downpipes dragging - and the propshaft!

Re: What did you do today?
99% finished welding on the Moggie now. Last 1% is the boot shelf support that I forgot to weld on. Rather annoying as I'll have to roll out the trolly and build the curtain for that tiny bracket.
Made a funky mess on this arch piece. Apart from the gap being too wide, there wasn't much to weld with. Probably the messiest part of the work. This bit is needed (I think) for the interior arm rest to attach to. I'll do a write up once I've got the welds dressed back and painted this week. Going to need a good long grinding session
I'm glad it's done now. Still have the brakes to sort!

Re: What did you do today?
Decided against buying either the Nissan or the Honda (I can't face paying the prices asked even if that is the going rate!) but I did get an insurance quote for the Nissan. No 'no claims' and fully comp, less than 200 per year!
I do (did?) have another policy but I can't remember who with so some no claims lost to the ether!

Re: What did you do today?
Try this, I think no claims lasts for 2 years without being on a policy:
Tracing a motor insurance policy
If you have a motor insurance policy but you do not have the policy document and you do not know the name of the insurance company that issued it:
check your bank account / credit card statements for evidence of payments to an insurer
check the Motor Insurers’ Bureau Motor Insurance Database which records the policy details of all vehicles insured in the UK
