Yes mate, the penultimate year of production. I prefer the 1956 models but with a car like that beggars can't be choosers, so I had to go and look.

The car had lost just too much of its originality and to say it was a luxury model contained no more gadgets than a BMC Farina. It just didn't grab me. And if it didn't grab me at first sight, I was not prepared to put the money and effort into getting it up to scratch.

You can see in every detail and especially the level of equipment that Packard was on its beam ends. They deserved to die. Even a lowly '55 Bel Air gives you more bang for your buck.

As for this particular example, there might have been a fairly good '55 Packard underneath all that Mascara, but to bring it back out would amount to a total restoration in the end, something only a die hard Packard enthusiast will endeavour.

I like these, 49/50 Ford. Made cheaply by the hundreds of thousands but such an elegant design. Clean and simple with great proportions and no excess detailing. A tidy four door can't be too much money.....?
