Extinct. The Dinosaurs of the Scrappage Scheme

Post by Junkman »

Some may remember that I said in 2009 that "this piece of social engineering will hit us hard in ten years".
Well, the time has come and it's hitting us hard. There is precious little 1990s tat left out there that can be hoovered up for peanuts and run into the ground in the shortest possible time. It looks like some specific models were all but wiped out altogether. Try to find a Renault Safrane. Or a 90s Passat.
Tell us about the rammel you never thought you'd miss but do now.

Carltons and Senators. I'd have one if there were any left, Omegas just aren't the same.

Good call. There aren't any Omegas left to speak of either.
Scorpios also received a massive hit, obvs.

Japtat of the era seems to have slipped through my fingers - late Bluebirds, Toyota Camrys and 2nd gen Accords. All would make perfectly acceptable winter weapons but alas seem to have been wiped from the earth.

No Legends either.
I checked Autotrader and although it's not really the platform on which the cars in questions are -well- traded,
of roughly half a million cars listed for sale, only 2,700 are from the 90s.
A similar picture on eBay, out of a total of 230,000 cars a mere 3.500 are 90s models.

It's an utter disgrace that enthusiasts weren't allowed to save the cream.

Say what you like about the bearded lentil cave dweller but at least he put his money into saving a Bond Equippe.

Here's an American opinion.

That oddly likeable septic appears to be very well researched.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is a Consumer Guide insider.
