That's an easy arrest for the cops. My old man told me about being careful if kipping in your car. He used to crash in the van to save on digs money when I was a kid on a regular basis to bring more money home but he also liked a drink. He's been woken up at stupid AM by 2 coppers in the past. They were right pissed off they couldn't find the keys apparently, no keys, no arrest. They searched the van but he'd stashed them underneath somewhere, well hidden from view.

I don't know who made him aware but I'm always mindful of it if camping or kipping in a vehicle. I normally just give the keys to whoever's with me as they can't drive the vehicle without consent.

That's the reason campsites always have a lockable gate. It stops piseed up people in campervans leaving through the night.

I think it's also to do with then making it private property too. If there's no public access/footpath then the drink drive thing goes away. I know I've quite happily been out in a Dhaiatsu Fourtrack drifting it on wet grass after 6 pints and stoned to the bone a few years back as I was on private, gated ground. It was about midnight and my mates son was approaching 17 and asked me to give him some pointers on driving. His old mans temper is too short so he asked me.

No-one had even shown him the low box on the truck, so afterwards he could easily go right up to 5th without being too fast for the field. 2WD was deffo still my fave tho

I'll often kip in the van after a gig. I don't make any distinction between "public" and "private" land as more often than not it might be a lane or a bit of common ground - I always give my keys to Mrs Rocker who puts them in her handbag along with her own set.

Not happened yet but if I get legally challenged I can say that I have no ideas where the keys are - I gave them to my wife before going in the venue and she has been in sole charge of the vehicle. Luckily, I have a non-drinking wife....
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......
