Re: Squire's voitures
Then buy something else than a Cadillac. It's not really that difficult.

1000 miles regrease interval seems a bit much, can you fit a one shot type system with a pump in the cab like you would have fitted on older wagons etc, hoses run to each nipple and apply a dollop whenever the handle is squeezed?

Re: Squire's voitures
Some of them are 'supposed' to be done every 500... it's a dirty job but I can spot other things whilst I'm doing it.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 12:16 pm 1000 miles regrease interval seems a bit much, can you fit a one shot type system with a pump in the cab like you would have fitted on older wagons etc, hoses run to each nipple and apply a dollop whenever the handle is squeezed?

Re: Squire's voitures
Mopar rather than a Cadillac- but I am slightly biased.
500 miles was 40s scheduling - I can't believe they were still selling stuff that late requiring attention so often, I would have assumed as executive and lord of the manor type transport they would frequently clock up high milages relatively quickly when they were new.
I expect 'ones man' would have been able to do the required lubrication whilst you had tiffin from Fortnum & Mason though....

Re: Squire's voitures
Yeah, but as a lord of the manor you had your man looking after it while you had a few Pimms at the club until he was finished. It made you a better driver to boot.
I'm amazed with what ease you could rack up the miles in anything American of the period.

That is the beauty of a large, unstressed engine.

Re: Squire's voitures
It's not only that. It's the whole package and 5,000 mile maintenance intervals.
They were just lightyears ahead of the rest of the world. Like I wrote in my headlight thread, they had completely different requirements in regard of a motor car.

Re: Squire's voitures
I must sit down and study that thread properly. It is clear to see that automotive engineers from other countries copied US practice. But many of the gadgets were exclusively confined to American cars. The septics seem to have been slow to take up disc brakes though.
Unfortunately much of the genuine innovation and technology is overlooked for the gaudy styling, and the old saying about US cars at the time, 'all show and nothing under the bonnet', could not be further from the truth.
