Bracket mostly complete. Requires one more bolt putting through on the rear alternator bracket and a couple nylocs.

It tightens up straight and holds nicely.

Not for keeping the Watts up and the Amps down.

I prefer André-Marie Ampère to James Watt any day of the week.
Watt. What a bloody phony.

Bolted all the bits on. Got the timing set well enough.

Alternator puts out, which is nice. At idle I went from 12.4V to 13.3, which went up to nearly 14V when revved. Belt doesn't squeal either.

Calling that success

Ordered oil pump. NOS, ordered a modern front oil seal to put on because modern ATF.
Couple thrust washers because the clearance is kinda between the two. Can always pop it open on the next big service and then I'll have one to take up the slack.

Question: Will a Pontiac straight eight run if the timing is 45 degrees advanced?

Answer: Yes

Painted up the timing marks because someone had just thrown paint on in approximately the correct place on the pulley.

With the timing set to 6° BTDC it idles well and revs freely. Funny, that.

My initial suspicion was correct. A bearing wasn't sat fully. That beating? Oil pump. However, my method to attempt to remedy that was flawed, leading to busting the flange on the oil pump.

However, I think the flange wasn't straight anyhow looking at the way it sat in the case compared to the new one.

New pump gone in, factory spec- now with a 66 thou think spacing washer I have 35 thou of lash, so need to tighten that up about 30 thou.
Closest washer is 26 thou which would leave me at 11 thou lash which is within tolerance.

Ordering washer tomorrow

Bought 2 gallons of 30 weight engine oil and 12 quarts of ATF.

Antifreeze notwithstanding (gonna run water to flush it through initially) that's the fluids done.
