I thought you were looking to offload the Wobseley at some point... looks a good base.

Does the Pennant get out much?
I’ve got a Volcane. A petrol one, at that.

What's much more concerning is what's happening slightly back from the rear doors...
Oh no... Passive rear steering? Or just the usual rot by the door catch?

The suspension blocks and door catches are alright. What really concerns me are the holes underneath the overlap of the rear ends of the rear sill plates and the plastic cladding of the wheel housings.

Also, the outer sills are completely shot and need replacing and we all know that there inevitably will be nasty surprises once they are off.

Not good. It's always worse than it looks.

A Renault 16 yesterday...

I decided not to remove any suspension parts. With the inner part cut away I was able to make a strong weld from behind. Not the prettiest repair but at some point I'll fill it and paint it as it's visible when you look into the engine bay

I'll finish it off that part this evening, the lower the car and raise it again with the blocks of wood in a different place so that I can sort the rot and thin metal that is under there. I've used thicker grade steel than Renault used.

It's all a bodge really, the entire front suspension needs removing and everything needs cutting out and replacing but I just don't have time for that. if I did that then the project would never end! This is strong and I've cut out all the rot I can.

Oh and I have an interesting welder issue. My decent, well formerly decent welder doesn't want to.play so I'm using my back up mig. A Fern 100 non turbo. Not a bad welder for what it is really although being not turbo I can't do too much at once. But anyway while I was lying under the car I was using a metal box as a headrest. I kept getting sharp pains in the back of my head but that's not unusual, I'm used to bits of wire wheel sticking in me but I could not seem to find the stray wire this time. Then I took my gloves off for reason s I can't remember. When I touched the bare metal of the car I got a sharp, tingly shock. That explains why I couldn't find the bit of wire...

So it looks like I may have another faulty welder. It still works fine for now though

I used to have it with the covers removed in a cage with a car radiator fan cable tied to it, wired to a car battery! I may revert to that if the big welder can't be repaired easily
