Box of bits has arrived ready for the weekend.
Far more boxes in there than I expected. I did wonder if I got the wrong order for a bit.
But it turns out they have sent a load of period correct boxes for my collection (presumably it's really just padding for the box)
Also plenty of boxes in boxes for some reason too
Then this included newspaper made me chuckle. A monthly Land Rover paper that can be picked up from your local LR specialist! Presumably because you're either ordering one from every month or having to visit one every month to have it fixed?
Instructions for the servo install recommend relocating it to the front wing. A benefit of which gives better access to the steering box. Useful presumably because its maintenance is part of the service schedule.

Re: Rover P4 - Arrived!
Lovely buy that is. I very nearly bought one a couple of years ago to use as a daily but then decided I liked a heater and low humidity interior on a winer morning………..
Freewheel is great…..my p2 has it and it gets used quite a bit. Once you move off there is no need to use the clutch. You do need to plan ahead but then driven old cars needs this anyway. You can’t rush a change or take up of drive though…..do it at the correct leisurely speed it’s fine. Rush a change and drive will not engage and you get a neutral.

Re: Rover P4 - Arrived!
We've had an awful lot of rain recently. As far as I can tell, almost unbelievably for an old car, the interior seems dry. Apparently the heaters on these are like furnaces too.
Gear changes on this one aren't that precise and quite approximate though. Clutch feels quite high too. Are these cable or hydraulic actuated clutches?
I really need to get a workshop manual!

Forget the spit…..nasty little things. Old rovers are class
These drive well…..better than my p2 for sure but you still get the nice styling. Sport saloon prettier but this just wants assembling

Re: Rover P4 - Arrived!
I suspect it drives much like my Pontiac.
Try to push on and it'll tell you it'll do it but please reconsider doing it again in the future. Drive at its pace and you'll be fine. Just means you'll be sitting at junctions maybe a touch longer than you would normally, waiting for a longer gap. You get good at judging how fast cars are going at a greater distance than you would before.
Get some OMFG BRIGHT LED bulbs for the tail lights. Be as visible as you can to traffic.

Clutch definitely isn’t hydraulic and I would say it’s too old for a cable. It’ll be a mechanical linkage I would imagine.

Re: Rover P4 - Arrived!
I bought a key for the glove box as none of the keys I had moved the lock. Handily (but insecurely) Rover put the key numbers on a plaque on the A post. The key I had for the boot lock is one number out from that.
Anyway good news! It turns the lock!
Bad news! It still doesn't open.
I think I'll need to find a way to break in. I really want to know what's inside. Probably nothing after all this.
