my nine year old daughter is autistic with learning difficulties and taking her anywhere isn't simple, last year I spent nearly an hour outside a public toilet because she was frightened by the hand dryer inside and wouldn't go in.

Honda Jr 1 is autistic.

He's 11 now and was frightened of certain noises. Hand dryers had him yowling but he's okay with them now. I think he first went bananas when Mrs H changed his nappy when he was a baby. It's deffo not volume as I we've had him round the noisy Carnival at the SECC before. It's just certain sounds.

I discovered when he was young that he didn't like my electric drill. I found it effective (for a while) to just squeeze the trigger a couple of times to stop him in his tracks and head for under the kitchen table. Sometimes I could just wave it around and if he clocked it, would do the same! In the end he just got past it and will watch me drill holes.

The last problem was the electric shower (pumped motor inside). It was really getting on my tits that the immersion had to go on and he'd use the taphead shower. He also didn't like to go in when the pull cord was set to on. Eventually he was persuaded to go and use it, with the door open. After that one time he was happy to use it all the time with the door shut.

I had trouble pushing my bike down the drive this morning at dark o'clock, when I checked the back tyre my suspicions were confirmed, a puncture.
So I discarded all my gear that I had just put on and grabbed the keys to the van, my route to work is dual carriageway for about 95% and she really isn't suited to it, but I just chilled and listened to the rattles.
I had my daughter for tea and took her home in the camper, she is a lot better on B roads, the suspension works really well and the low gearing means less gearchanges.
I have ordered a new tyre for bike, but I won't have that back on the road for the best part of a week, so going to have to use van as everyday transport which I am trying to avoid, because the odometer and fuel gauge have packed up.
Overall I am starting to enjoy it, if I stick some bunting in it then people will think I am middle class being ironic and trying some shabby chic.

I actually was doing some research about tyres for the motorbike this afternoon and typed in Metzeler Roadtec into google, was scrolling down the first page that cropped up, didn't realise it was a GSX1400 site until some bloke called hooli appeared with good things to say about them.
I have bought one, but now I am wondering if I will ever be able to go around a left hand bend again...

Good luck with it. Some of my kids best memories are of adventures in our camper.

Top tip: if the gas hob is a two burner with a grill to one side, do not let biros or other pens anywhere near it. The slot over the grill is perfectly sized to swallow them, and then fill your pride and joy with poisonous fumes when you next make toast, instead making melted plastic. I've done this twice. Pretty sure i caused one of my kids lasting lung damage

I nearly bought one of those many years ago but it was too wide to fit in the drive so ended up with a JDM HiAce (long gone) and about an inch either side of it (climbed out through the back).
They do like to rot but if you underseal well it should last many years. If you think that's slow, HiAce was an auto, that was slow.

Calor seem to have taken a 'fuck you' attitude to gas bottles. I've already gone over to Flowgas for Butane on mine and the Propane bottle I'm hoping to empty next week and move to Flowgas as my local supplier will do a straight swap. I have both because the Butane is a big bottle (13kg) and was in the never used patio heater compared to the 7kg? Propane that was in the van. Also Butane doesn't work below about 6C and we do a fair bit of off grid camping so having a choice at this time of year is useful.

Check eBay for used bottles as well as any local suppliers, also people like Go Outdoors do them. Enjoy it.
