Not watched the video but £300?RetroShite wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 9:34 pm
I've been putting off welding the sill on that transit all week, the owner dropped it off on Monday night and I only managed to muster up the enthusiasm to get on with it today. Actually I had planned to subcontract the work out to a friend because I really couldn't be bothered but he was late turning up and I ended up doing most of the bits on the outer sill, there were some bits on the inner sill I let him have a go at...
I had initially planned on doing the bare minimum couple of patches and quoted an estimated £100 for the work but ended up having to replace a large section of inner sill and buy an outer sill repair panel for £40.
What do you reckon I can get away with charging for it?
Also the van was full of rubbish and reeked of dog so thinking I might charge a little extra for the inconvenience of having to work inside it.
I finished the job by under-sealing the inner sill underneath and painting the outer part in silver.
What did you do today?

Re: What did you do today?
Freelander brakes got discs and pads today. What a shitty design sliding calipers are, both had to come off because, as expected, they were seized. What should have been a quick job took all afternoon what with having to bleed both sides.
Next, I put a new starter on my bench saw and it now looks horrible. However, the old switchgear, lovely though it may have been, was the latching type which stays 'on' even if the power is momentarily disconnected. I can now park my arse on the table if I want, confidant that the motor won't burst into life and saw me in half.

Slap some blue hammerite over that plastic case and it will look like it's always* been there.
That reminds me I must sell my Elu flip over table saw.

Re: What did you do today?
You can do so much more with a flip-over than the my old thing. I thought about getting one but that would be silly what with the new switch. Why are you getting rid? I've just remembered why I decided against buying a new one- a friend had one which had to be scrapped because the motor packed up and replacement parts werent available. I'm afraid it may have been yellow...

It's too heavy to be carrying round to jobs now my back is knackered and I don't have a workshop I can leaving it set up in.
Last time I used it the run/ start capacitor went and it's sat in the shed sulking ever since.
It's got all the bits and the extension table to go on the side of it.
It's a proper old ELU before they were taken over by DeWalt so it's very very well made, all metal!
It's 110v as well and I hate carrying my transformer up into lofts as well...

I topped up the slightly-leaking Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE) system in my Disco.
The ACE fluid is fucking expensive, the cheapest I can find is £21.99 per litre delivered via eBay...!
I've no chance to investigate the leak at present as my shared unit is full of other people's projects

this thread has reminded me that i should dig out my old elu router and see if i can get some brushes for it. I've only been meaning to do that for the past 5 years.

Pretty much 100% certain you will be able to get genuine, possibly from the US, otherwise simply measure then and order by size via eBay for not very much money.
I go through brushes in my chop saw and grinder like they are going out of fashion so I buy 10 pairs at a time, one of the other chippies didn't know about replacing the brushes so had been chucking away a new saw every few years...

I ended up with a 9 inch Makita grinder as the bricky who owned it had thrown it on a skip when it stopped working. It took longer to wire a new plug on it than to replace the brushes and the new ones were less than 3 quid postedDodgeRover wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2019 4:08 pmone of the other chippies didn't know about replacing the brushes so had been chucking away a new saw every few years...
