Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
Bub if it works and is driveable I wouldn't bother compression testing as it will only make you worry. If it shows up a fault are you going to fix it when it will be bloody expensive ? Just run it into the ground unfortunatly cheap cars are now a thing of the past and a 1k car might last a year if you are lucky as they are the same quality as the 200 quid snotters of a few years ago. Talking to some used car dealers and they are having to pay retail prices to get stock and half the time it is still rubbish. A lot of customers are currently sticking with their cars as it is better the devil you know and if they can get the clutch to hang on another few months they will. The market is mental at the moment with no sign of it slowing down.

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
It wouldn't worry me,it would let me know what I'm working with. with cheap cars being a thing of the past though I'd be more inclined to sort it's issue seeing as the car is comfy, spacious and can tow anything I'd need it to. For 500 or so quid I could rebuild the engine in it. The car would owe about 1200 by that point but as you say, what can you get for around that price especially considering I'd know what it's had done and I haven't got 1200 to throw at something else which may or may not be ok.panhard65 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2023 10:59 am Bub if it works and is driveable I wouldn't bother compression testing as it will only make you worry. On the other side of the coin as much as it's a decent car I'd ideally want a van like a vivaro,LDv maxus size van for a camper conversion and that would be the best thing for me. I'm going to see how it goes till September/October time and see what we've saved up by then because the insurance is rather high as is road tax which is about the only off putting thing to me.

Quite a while back I was getting a ride in a taxi (mk3 Mondeo). The driver reconned he could get about 250k from each engine but they couldn’t be rebored etc. no idea if it’s true

Re: Stupid questions about motorised conveyances
I've no idea either. After speaking to wife I think I'll just run it till October when insurance and MOT is due. See what renewal wil be and then work out if it's worth chucking it through an MOT and when it's got a ticket on either keeping it or put it up swap for a van. If it fails MOT I can get 390 on car take back

I think it was panhard that mentioned PCV valve. I'm on holiday a week tomorrow so might just throw keys at mechanic and tell him to blank off egr and replace PCV.

Effectively reduce the noise let you quiet sleep.
I hope not - at least not in context as I want to use them to mount the fuel tank in the AMC - don’t really want to be asleep at the wheel.
