I'd have loved a Mk2 Giha X but they're silly money now.

I've been buying all the cars I wanted when I was young for the last 20 years. I must have been one of the first to be into retro/shit when I was younger starting with a mk3 escort ghia in white anout 2004. I went to carlisle to pick it up. I fitted some leapard print seat covers etc.
I've been living the dream for two decades.

Me too, but more than four decades in my case. I always knew the old Mercs, Jags etc would one day be worth money, but they were so far gone before they fell into my hands it didn’t matter. It’s the many basic Escorts, Cortinas etc in perfect condition that slipped through my fingers, me never in a million years thinking any were worth saving that annoys me.

And what basic cars are slipping through your (all of our) fingers now, that are worth saving for the future?

I think I've owned nearly every car mentioned in this thread! That may sound like 'showing off' but it's not, I'm old and was in the trade for a good few years so lots of cars came around regularly.
I loved the Granada's, had a MK1 3 litre Ghia that had been owned by a wedding outfit, was white (obviously) with a black vinyl roof and black velvet (looked like it and felt like it) and it was utterly mint even though it was already quite an old car. I had loads of MK2s from a very basic 2 litre 'L' to a 2.8 Ghia X with every toy imaginable. I even had an ex cop 2.8 manual that went like the clappers but had no boot floor, was otherwise mint.
