Treat yourself to an XL, Rev, the little red badge on the side looks much better against the Tawny.....I've never really warmed to Eckys but I do remember them being announced as replacing the Anglia. Unlike many new releases you never had to wait long to see a new Ford even in our remote backwaters. I remember a Welsh vicar coming to see my Dad about something in what must have been one of the very last Anglias. I asked him why he didn't wait for the Escort (precocious little cunt that I was) and he replied in a thick Glamorgan accent "Don't like the piggy front end, look....."
Fair enough. His Anglia was nice anyway - in that run-out metallic blue.

Re: Escort endeavours
I would like a 1959 Anglebox, especially a Bbbbbbbase with the van grille.
Escorts are far too much money plus, been there/seen it/done it. The CVH stuff really was rubbish in retrospect.
I'll have an Avenger first.

Re: Escort endeavours
Hi
About time Mk2s
Again had quite a few . Can't remember all of them.
Mrs Thunder once asked if I kept all the Mk 1+2s 2 doors I had would she now be living in a life of luxury. No I replied they were all rotten.
First Car I ever raced was a 1100 2 door Mk2 . Got given it by Crash test Andy so named because he had a very heavy right foot . Every car he had got written off including his Mums HC Viva . The Viva was scrapped after taking off whilst going the short way over the top of a roundabout. Brakes "failed " apparently. Its ok no one else believed him either.
It had still got some Mot on it but this wasn't exactly straight and also the car technically belonged to Andy's ex who wanted it back but because of the Mot situation he didn't want to give it back so it had to disappear.
Was originally race it with 2.0 Pinto in it as I was going to take it to Brafield and be up against 2.8/3.0 Grannies etc.
Built it and the Pinto in only for the 2.0 to start knocking like a bastard the day before race day . Nothing for it out with the Pinto and back in with the mighty 1100
Went better than expected got 4 races out of it including a 10th in the consolation. Got spun a lot even managed to spin a few myself
.
After the final we had to give it quite a bit of panel adjustment with big hammers and the floor was parting company from the rest of the shell .
I took it out for the DD holding the gear stick in place as the floor had moved . Did the Rolling Lap and then got spun , let go off the gear stick that then rolled across the car before disappearing through a gap between the floor and the passenger side door..
Not that it really mattered as the car suddenly picked up speed without me touching the throttle and I was well and truly followed into the fence.
I had to be assisted out and my clothing loosened by the St John's Ambulance. But I was ok but the car not so .
Snapped n jacked .
Axle Tramping banger magazine called the most jacked Escort ever.
I am still in the car..... You can just see the blue of my overalls between the door and the floor. Crash Test Andy (L) and myself. To be continued

Re: Escort endeavours
Back in about 2011 I had to shift a load of rubbish from the abode of Ex_Claim_Bird. I suppose I could have rented a van but instead I paid £150 for a P reg Escort estate from Cavcraft. Although it looked like it'd been resprayed in Tippex it went week enough and coped admirably not just with the tip runs, but also towing a fully laden car trailer 50 miles back from Manchester.
IIRC, I punted it on for £300 after it'd done sterling service.
