I get everything I might possibly need ready, which usually involves searching for hours if not days, and then never use the bloody things.

A long time ago I was on a managers course and the one thing I remember from it is:

I've been picking the brains of the two Jims. One is a retired mechanic in his 90s and the other a retired farmer who has returned a rover P4 to the road this year after a weldathon and had rebuilt his own David Brown. Great guys. Apparently it's possible to lift the engine without splitting the tractor although a lot of faff.

Finally got round to doing something about the Broon at the bottom of the garden.

I'd previously polished my shaft vigorously (and given the crank on this a rub) but having put everything back together, hadn't managed to get the starter motor to play ball. Replacing the battery leads and various other fucking about had made no difference. Took it off and on the bench to see if I'd turned the shaft of the live feed nut and snapped a wire inside. Quick check with a battery first revealed that it was working fine so back on the tractor, jump leads off the xtrail straight onto the starter and the hoor fired up.

Let it run for a few minutes and seemed to be ok. Drove out of it's place as a garden ornament and shut it off so I could claim at least a temporary victory.

Think it's the earth strap and/or connection. It was when I put the jump lead from the earth of the car battery straight onto the starter that I got some decent turnover speed.

I know nothing about tractors but that is a splendid looking outfit there. Is this what gets used to cut the grass before the car show?
