Re: MGB GT fettling
I guessed it wasn't the MG which is why I didn't respond. However I did not and still do not know what car he was talking about. Possibly a 405?

Re: MGB GT fettling
MG is backup car at the mo.
405 just passed MOT then shat the alternator, sort of, still works after some miles and if you rev it hard enough. I've taken it apart and has carbon build up on one of the two little brushes. I've tested all 3 windings ( think) and they are measuring 0.05 ohms each so possibly a bad diode?
Since when did Mg's use T50 Torx fittings?
Just got back home to find new alternator waiting for me, cost 78 quid. Much better than the nearly 140 I was quoted off the Bosch numbers that was on it, hopefully it fits...
New stat and timing light have turned up for the MG, I'll get to that at some point.
I've also got the SRDT booked in for MOT next Wednesday as not being able to just tax and use it the last few weeks has been a pain in the nuts! Normally I've got access to the Terios and 350Z but both currently on SORN as the old man's away in the sun, very helpful

Re: MGB GT fettling
The new alternator turned out to be different The pulley on the new one was smaller and I didn't have enough adjustment to tighten it up for ffs.
A new Dayco belt that's the right one for the car sorted it. It had an 1152 fitted. I'll have to keep.that with the old alternator if I can get it fixed.

A clean pass on the SRDT. Been sat 8 months or so so pretty happy with that
Yes the wheel trims are cabbaged but there's a full set of good ones in the boot.

Re: MGB GT fettling
Nothing really to report lately as I've barely used the 405's as have access to the Terios for a bit and like a change every now and then. The only problem with that being that the old man has spilt milk in the boot the daft fucker Hopefully a load of bicarbonate of sods liberally sprinkled on it will help.
The Inastate has sat in the street for over 3 weeks un-moved and for the last week it has been fully frozen up as it never gets any sun where it's parked. Out of interest I tried to start it late on the other evening. One heat and it fired first turn of the key, instantly.

It's been coated in something black underneath at some point, I've seen some of it come off when cleaning the salt out the inner arches with the jet wash, that needs replacing sooner rather than later.

My mum has one of them, it's pretty rot free too. Reminds me of a phone box when ya sit in it.
Can't find a replacement window switch for the driver's side anywhere though

Re: MGB GT fettling
Yep, very narrow indeed! Must be approaching original mini width? I have to assure some passengers that although it feels like it's going to fall over on many bends it won't, I've thoroughly tested the old one he had in the past! He did 55K between oil changes in it and then put 20/50 in it after seeing the price of oil in the garage when the light had come on, did it a lot of good that did.

They got an amazing score of 1.5 out of 5, I don't think I've ever seen a review so low It's perfect for him tbh as lives down some very narrow single lanes, limited pull ins and dreadful drainage so they get covered in ice and deep ruts.
No good for proper off roading as no low box but they will do it if you are prepared to rape the clutch in certain situations.
Edit. It appears to be an inch wider than the original mini fitted with the sports pack arches according to a quick search so yes, very post box feeling.
