I am not a LR fan at all but this would meet all of my vehicular needs and it is a bit special because of all the hateful shit that it doesn’t have: airbags, abs, engine management, injectors, extra camshafts, plastic headlights, leather, aircon, multi-link, subframes, back doors, aluminium wheels, connectivity, dvd screens, catalysts…
Sadly it does have electric windows and sunroofs but hey ho. If I had somewhere to keep this inside I would love to 100% it, starting with sunroof delete and an original air filter.

I have a 300tdi in a shed and have been thinking about doing up and making it my daily for the very reasons you mention.

As long as the EGR is in the bin and you don't mind having to fix it constantly to make it work daily.

My mental Dad has done just this, he spent the best part of €5000 having his tatty old 300Tdi welded and brought back from being an ornament in his garden in France for the last 6 years. It still looks like a bag of shit but he uses it back and forth between Brittany and Milton Keynes, usually overloaded and towing a trailer. His immaculate 2012 Defender is sitting outside my house and I’m supposed to be selling it, he’s had a couple of TD5s and a D3 in the past but reckons the 300 will be his last car. He’s even considering selling the S1 he’s had since 1977.

The proper 15” chrome and painted trims for that Airport Taxi are probably worth more than the car . I had a similar 250 LWB 25 years ago and even then I could have sold the hubcaps for more than I got for it, just didn’t find out until it had gone!
