Re: Building the Leg End. The Old Jag thread.
Many of myJaguar anecdotes have been told in various threads both on here and on The Beige over the last 10 years or so. I fear they only serve to amuse me in my dotage . I might try and find my memoir/ confession of my working life which I started last year as I’m sure some awful XJS revelations are in there.
My family history was shaped a little by Jaguars, my paternal Grandmother met my Grandfather whilst driving an SS100 as a WRVS driver during the Coventry and Birmingham Blitz. He had come home from his duties as an AcK Ack gunner in Southampton to bury his Mother and Sister after a direct hit on the family home. She was only 19 and the Jag belonged to a wealthy neighbour, my Dad remembers he owned it up until the early 60’s. Not actual car.

The Jaguar plant at Castle Bromwich is to close June next year. That pretty much brings the Jag story to an end.

It was good while it lasted. Until the last few years at least.

Playing Devils Advocate can't you also say that about BMW when you look at the monstrosities they're now producing.

No because BMW make loads of cars and lots of money. I don’t want any of them but they are very healthy.

Castlebrom lived an extra 40 years thanks to John Egan. BL wanted to close it in the very early '80s.

Re: Building the Leg End. The Old Jag thread.
The lad is getting all new Jaguar parts for the subframe etc, £1700 all fitted and done. Fucking cheap ass Jags, when I had to buy the new subframe for the Merc (about 4 - 5 years ago) it was £2200 all in.
As my Jag has been parked and unused for a couple of weeks (while I try to dry out the sodding Merc) I thought I'd better exhume the old girl and use her. The brake discs were brown/red which offends me as they are new and I do like sparkly brakes (all my callipers, on both cars, were resprayed when the brakes were re-built). I fully expected it to NOT start or play up due to a low battery (the Merc does... frequently) but it started perfectly and behaved impeccably.
All this bollox about reliable German cars and unreliable old British shit. You watch, it'll go drastically wrong now!
