Is that even a thing these days?
Yes

A fellow Reliant botherer got a couple of 6-1/4" Laycock clutch covers and plates refurbished by http://clutch-fix.co.uk/

I hate the borg and beck type and have had two Laycock's refurbished for about a £100 each including the friction plate re-lining.

I know I am as dense as fuck - but surely MG wouldn't have designed and manufactured or had manufactured, a clutch that was completely unique to that car? It seems daft. I bet some enterprising person could find a near equivalent that could work, shirley?

Stranger things have happened. I wouldn't think you'd have to order that many in the grand scheme of things for them to make a custom job out of bits.

Reliant had LuK knock out diaphragm spring clutches with the pad for the carbon thrust pad and flogged them alongside the later post-1990 that don't have a thrust pad instead having a roller thrust bearing and guide. Long been NLA with only the wanky 6 (coil) spring clutches available in that fitment. Both are a pile of tosh when compared to the Laycock diaphragm spring clutch set.

It might be off some obscure Chinese mass produced car that was only available in their domestic market. Even Eddie might struggle with that.

They make a few thousand unit tops production runs for classic cars and likewise for brand new Aston Martin/Ferrari/etc. So could see them doing it for a low volume mass market car too if money is chucked their way.

SAIC has access to cheap manufacturing in China too.

And when the DMF is fucked I can hardly imagine it being easy to source a replacement or solid conversion alternative.

Probably not but pricey replacements are available by the looks of it.

I think that would be the end of one of them if the DMF isn't available unless something can be adapted.

Like putting the internals of rover gearboxes into fucked mini ones.
