Basically yeah. His thought too. I think in his mind it's ready for scrap now.
I suspect the cam might not be turning or out of time.

Re: What did you do today?
I had a Megane dropped a valve years ago and that cranked but sounded odd. Had a fault code for low fuel pressure. It turned out when the valve went it smashed the nozzle off the injector. As it was common rail all the fuel pumped out the broken injector which stopped the rest from firing. Maybe take the injectors out for a look ? Some people shouldn't have cars if they can't be bothered to look after them. The mot station I use have a 4 year old Relay van in that the owners have never serviced, 70k miles and the engine is fucked. It's 3.5k just for the engine but as it is that 2.2d lump as fitted to Ford and Land Rover it is back ordered with no delivery date.

Re: What did you do today?
Lack of servicing is one thing but improper useage is another. Neighbours have some Korean thing, bought at 4 years old but all it does is crawl from our street to the Tesco Express two days a week and the same distance the other way to the big Asda on another day.
If they walked up the corner shop and did their big shopping five miles out of town the car at least would have a chance to warm up and "clear out", I bet they are tipping shit petrol in it too....
Ironically, they got rid of their nice Saab 9-3 because they "weren't using it enough"

Thinking about it, hpfp is probably run off the cam and a chain failure is likely to get both cam sensor and rail pressure codes. I'm not sure if it's easy to see the cam through the oil filler cap on a N47 BMW diesel.panhard65 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 7:53 am I had a Megane dropped a valve years ago and that cranked but sounded odd. I likely won't be going as far as pulling injectors on it as I don't want to get too involved. Especially if the chain has snapped.
But if I can give an easy and accurate terminal diagnosis like a snapped chain, it would save him the money to be taken to a garage for diagnosis then extra costs in getting it taken away.

The white one looks to be worth a few quid too.
I don't want the black one if anyone wants it.

Re: What did you do today?
I can't seem to upload pictures on here any more.
I went to a breakers yesterday and got the following for the A4 Cab:
New nearside mirror (glass was smashed and the stick on repair glass gave a weird perspective)
New battery cover
New offside windscreen trim (missing)
Intact armrest (New latch bought from ebay)
All fitted today apart from the windscreen trim as it needs glued on and it's too cold for that at the moment.
Since buying this I've done quite a bit:
Timing belt and aux belt and anti freeze
Replaced drivers seat base
Replaced cup holder
New locking wheel nut
Oil and filter
Touched in percussive parking marks in rear bumper
New thermostat
To do is to sort the oil leak and find a new offside front wing in colour.
Good car this and compared to the others in my fleet it feels like it does about 100mpg. The guage barely moves and I've save a lot in fuel since getting it in November.
I've tried selling the Saab but no luck so it's just sitting in my garage now.
