Re: Found pics
Just looked that one up.....The ad would appear to be around 1969. The car was subsequently (in later years) owned by a Rhode Island drug smuggler and confiscated by the FBI. They appear to have received 1.6million dollars for it. Has crossed the Atlantic a few times since...

Re: Found pics
Being middle aged, I listen to Radio 4 Extra. Earlier on today they were playing a 1972 episode of Steptoe & Son and this episode featured Harold buying an XK120 for £300.NorfolkNWeigh wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 1:17 pm No, but I found this 2D0BED9D-77CB-4F31-89EB-F2ADDE8F6C0D.jpeglooking for GTO ads.

Re: Found pics
Sounds feasible that....I binned my 70s MotorSports but the December 1969 edition carries a couple of ads near that price, including a runner XK140 with MoT and "recon engine" at £425.....
A third of that bought an "immaculate" Triumph Mayflower too, not a ratio of value that would stack up today, I fear..

Re: Found pics
The plot was Harold had saved £300 for the car but Albert wanted to spend the £300 on a colour TV.mercrocker wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 4:31 pm Sounds feasible that....I binned my 70s MotorSports but the December 1969 edition carries a couple of ads near that price, including a runner XK140 with MoT and "recon engine" at £425.....
