Wonder if I'd get twice the exchange price knocked off?

That doesn't d cross our minds but we had a bit of a play about and there's two wires. Thick red cable and thin wire. Thin wire goes to engine running module and thick wire showing 12.4 v with engine running..

Could well be on the unit that's on the car but I can't take it off myself. The original unit has a thick coating of grease and power steering fluid from a lifetime of being sat under the pas pump. That would need a total strip and rebuild I'd assume. Also smells vile.

Door handles now have ECUs and can have firmware updates.

How did we ever manage without it?
We can do it so we did, 'technology' gone mad.

Absolute insanity. There can't be any sensible reasons for that to even exist.

Re: What did you do today?
TBF there probably been a little microcontroller chip in door handles to detect if a hand is there or not for years. Except Kia/their suppliers managed to fuck up the software in that one.
Given it needs that special programming probe rather than over the OBD2 diagnostic port, I imagine they never intended it to have a need for updating.
Software in it will be pretty simple and just detect if a hand is there or not then send a signal elsewhere. Easier to put that functionality in a shitty little simple 8bit 25¢ microcontroller than feeding that signal to a more complex control unit that has more jobs.

Re: What did you do today?
Exactly, stuff there is no need for. Just have a rod to the lock that's worked fine for decades.

Re: What did you do today?
Not really. When it becomes an old banger, you'll just use the keyfob instead of the keyless lock/unlock.
