Looking at the chaps Facebook profile, he looks to race classic Escorts around Goodwood. So potentially in the right hands.

So much detail but so little proof.

Will it be listed on "Bring a Trailer" or "Bring a dustpan" ?

The chap lives in Andover, UK so probably not off to the US.

There are quite a few pictures of a Sprite with that reg going around racetracks. So sounds like it has pedigree.

If you click on the Instagram profile above or swipe across pictures (no idea if it'll work for everyone) you'll see more photos on its history.

Stuff like Frogeyes with any kind of competition history will be well documented, it is just a case of poring through race programmes, club newsletters and the so on. Used to get lots of this kind of enquiry at Beaulieu - well before any kind of digitisation and it was laborious and frustrating but quite achievable over time.

The moment I read "Somerset, England" the advert was read in the voice of a US collector planning to flip it onwards.

If it is the genuine car that went racing then fair play for taking on what appears to be a significant project.
There was just a tiny doubt in my mind that it may be a tribute car built by a fan, maybe following a guide in the Fast-Car or Max power of yesteryear.

I wonder how many factory Team special Subarus with faded, peeling stickers will turn up in 40 years
claiming motorsport history at the hands of [DRIVER NAME] in [RALLY SERIES] in the [RALLY DECADE]

Undiscovered cars with any tangible link to the golden era of sports car racing must be few and far between and whilst I totally get your analogy of the Subaru future "finds" my nose for authenticity tends to err on the side of giving the benefit of doubt. We can only guess at the motives of the saviour but at least it stands a chance of sympathetic treatment now....
