Particularly as the traditional approach at Browns Lane was "Ey Derrek, ow big this ray-de-yayter gotta be?"
Derek takes a thoughtful sip of lukewarm sweet milky tea while Frank puffs on his pipe, hands in his brown warehouse overcoat.
"Well, we got that'un there. Them suits frum Osstin bruought it with'ey, it's quite big, from a Metro I think'ey said.'
Frank glances at the radiator, stacked up against a collection of rusting, dusty bar stock next to a lathe that hasn't been used since the war.
"Aye, I think Bob saiddee'as one o'they on 'is test freem outside, 'ee saiddee ran thu V12 on it an' it stey'd cool."
Derek looks outside through a filthy, cracked window at the drizzle in the yard, where an engine sits collecting rainwater.
"Mm. If it'll run in 'at, it'll run anywhur."
With that Frank stamps the work order and throws it in the mail slot, sits down and finishes his tea before wandering slowly back the long way round the floor to his desk.

...and that's the story of why the V12 got a bad rap in the USA.
That's called 'Birmingham Engineering'

Battery and associated fancy computer controlled charger arrived.

Hooked it all up and put it to charge. It's sucking down the juice because it's been boxed up a while.

Windows, mirrors, sunroof, all of the passenger seat and all but 2 motors on the driver's seat work.

There's a few burned bulbs but nothing major. The lighting is weird, I've got side repeater indicator lights (on top of the side marker/retro-reflector units), rear fog lights and the brake lights only come on when the ignition is on. American spec for years has been the brake lights come on regardless of ignition position.

Display woke up with a litany of faults. It also says BOOT OPEN when you pop the trunk. Need to look at the radio, not sure how it's all hooked up. It works but it's a touch underwhelming, especially given there's an amplifier in the trunk.

Oh, amp in the boot means the posh sound system. Should match up to a 6x9" 'sub' on the parcel shelf I think. I know I see on forums that the cones detach from the speaker frames as the foam ring crumbles, particularly in hot places.

There's some sunroof parts you can't get anymore, so you're lucky that works. Seat motors aren't too bad to change, but could just be switches. There's two versions of the motors though, with & without memory as the memory ones have potentiometers which stick & break internally so the memory function fails.

Brake lights only with ignition on matches mine from memory.

The driver's seat is memory. The front cushion motor operates but doesn't move the cushion up or down.
The hesdrest motor doesn't run at all, but I hear the relay operating when I move the switch.

The amp is an Alpine, the nose of which sticks through the back left wheel cover. There's also a big blue aftermarket wire coming from the battery. So, origin uncertain.

Ahh, I can't recall the make of the premium sound system but pretty sure it's not Alpine. I think Hardon Karmon & Bose depending on the age.

If it's the original headunit then there's a switch on it somewhere to swap between the two types, I think it changes if the internal amp is used or not. My understanding of the premium system (which I don't have) is everything runs via an amp in the boot.

Talking of the seats though, if you scroll back through my XJR thread there's pics of the driver's seat being stripped & rebuilt so that might help make sense of the issue. I took lots of pics as there's no way I'd remember how the covers went on otherwise.

I'll have to do that, thanks. The original stereo is gone, replaced with a moderately well fitting panel with a really gash leaper logo. Regular DIN stereo, Pioneer.

Got a couple dash bulbs to replace also.
Left indicator repeater doesn't work, nor the front left marker. I think those are wheel arch out for access.

Eww that does look shyte doesn't it?

Gear selector lights out too? or just too bight to see them? those & the switches behind the gearstick are surface mount LEDs I think, so no issue to a man of your skills.

Ignition was off. On, it lights the position up red.

Should it have more than that?

Dash out, bulbs out. All four will be changed, one only left working, the third the filament broke as I pulled it.

I'll get some more bulbs

The 'track' and position numbers should be green, I think it only comes on with the lights.

i only noticed as the S for sport looked illuminated but I couldn't see the button next to that for the cruise (if yours has it).
