Re: What did you do today?
A little while ago I mentioned nearly gassing myself when I tried to get the Alvis running. After that I ordered a service kit from Red Triangle. I have not got around to sorting it out myself and the garage up the road, who have worked on it previously, don't want to service it.
I have taken it to another garage, this involved a trip across town, only about four miles, with a farting, backfiring, stalling, unwieldy, heap.
I got my mate to follow me, to shield it, in case it died in traffic. (It has no hazard lights and apparently no working brake lights)
I did get there, it was an ordeal. They didn't look at it until the afternoon, but have now given me a list of other jobs needed. Apart from the service and changing the fuel that it went in for, they have spotted a drip from the water pump, recommended I change the hoses and fan belt at the same time (sensible).
I have tried to order the parts, but Red Triangle only do bits for water pumps, no exchange or replacements and apparently there are different sizes of fan belts.
I now have to see if the garage want to strip the pump down and repair if possible, or get the car back and try to get a rebuilt pump elsewhere.

I thought Red Triangle were a bit easier to deal with than that....Hope you can get it properly sorted.

Re: What did you do today?
Actually yesterday, but close enough. Gave my mate a lift from Coventry to Leeds to collect an eBay purchase he's blaming me for. All I said was you'd suit one of those.
Anyway he scored a 1999 range rover p38 2.5dse in I think Ardennes green. I showed him it on eBay and the jammy bugger won it for 820 quids. So what did that get him? A 180k miles diesel range with a full MOT, very tidy bodywork, full beige cow interior and most things working. It's been chipped so on booting it he left my bx in a cloud of black smoke. It ran perfectly all the way back, not a single puff of blue smoke and only a bit of black stuff when he booted it. A good clean up and detail and it will look great. Only major things not working are the heater stuck in hot on both sides and the remote locking. He really did steal it at that price. Even the air suspension works perfectly, at the moment, and it didn't sink overnight. Start instantly this morning with not a puff of smoke.
First jobs will be to sort the heater out. A quick read online says to start with the little fan sensor that detects the interior temperature. Failing that I'll unplug the blend motors and power them direct and see if they move. I have to say I'm feeling a slight pang of jealousy, which will probably last until the first breakdown

They really saw him coming at that price. First of an endless list of jobs will be to sort the heater out. A quick read online says to start with the little fan sensor that detects the interior temperature. Failing that I'll unplug the blend motors and power them direct and see if they move. Carry on until he's spunked a load of cash on it and reach for the box of Swan's.
I have to say I'm feeling a sorry for the poor sod, which will probably last until the first breakdown when I start laughing at him and say 'I told you so'

Re: What did you do today?
To day I fitted the GBOL's leccy window switch in my mum's car. Being quality* it didn't fit. The window lock button is made the wrong shape as you can see in the pic. The button off the old switch pack fitted on with a drop of glue and now everything works.
Then I cleaned the throttle body as it'd started stalling just after starting. The inside of it was white and fluffy with that monkey metal corrosion, I've scraped all that off and cleaned the carbon deposits. It runs fine now.

Re: What did you do today?
Just checked though and the one touch lowering stops halfway and has to be triggered again. Tried winding it right down and holding it for a few secs but that didn't help.
Then I mentioned the one touch opening to the mother And she said whut? So I figured she never uses it and gave up for the day.
Tomorrow I need to check the loom from the back door as the central locking isn't opening the boot again, it was a broken wire before so probably is again

FFS! Makes you wonder if it's a GBoLs joke or a Japanese one from Daihatsu?!

Ahh well, it's in now and working so all good. Cheers for finding it anyway, as I couldn't.
