The only "grease" points are on the trunnions, and they need EP90, not grease.

Shouldn't be any UJs on the prop, but one on each halfshaft.

Front end I pumped grease into the kingpins and there was also grease nipples on the trackrods ends which I gave a good dose too.

Washed it in the rain to remove all the detritus from storage.

Redid the battery terminal wires as they weren't being held very well by the screws. I folded the wire back on itself to fill out the clamp more.

Pulled the tops of the carbs off to give the dashpots a bit of a clean and re-oil. Noticed the front float bowl wobbles around a lot. I guess there shouldn't be that much movement?
I'd imagine it affects the float level and thus mixture. Plus vibration frothing the fuel up.


Looking at a parts diagram, the special rubber washer thing to hold it in place is available but at a cool £13 for that tiny bit of rubber. Might give Moss a call on Tuesday and see if they have one in stock or at least able to get it in for me.

Quite therapeutic going through an old car with the garage door open whilst listening to the rain lashing down outside in an evening.

I dunno why but I really do like the colour of that car, it seems to suit it very well indeed. Makes it seem newer than it is I think but not in a bad way, to me anyway.
I went out in a really ropey one as a kid, the arse skimming the floor experience much like the BGT but more so was most memorable.

I will admit that I do like a red Spitfire or indeed any classic.

However the colour on this really sets it apart for me. I don't usually like modern metallic style paint on classics but this works for me.

Non standard paint makes cars stand out to people and also (satisfyingly) gets the rivet counters in a right tizzy.

No you don't.

Other applications from other manufacturers with identical parts use grease on them.

Some have been using gear oil for years without issue and some have been using grease for years without issue. I'm not going to loose any sleep over it. Better to have grease than be dry.

It's BL crap so they will wear out in a couple of thousand miles no matter what lubricant you put in it. I personally would use grease as it stands a better chance of staying in there.
