Re: Land Rover Rustorashun
last bit for today
front springs off and chassis is now ready for me to align and line up bits to weld on stripped one of the heads down, aside from all inlets being full of sand they came apart easily, all valves guides are as new! Rocker gear is more than serviceable this is the crap that was falling out of the head as I was pulling the valves out No sign that head gasket had failed however the hydrolock trauma means that I will reassemble and get it crack and pressure tested before going much further This weeks recycle bin looks a bit excessive. Off the booze for a day or too I think. Give the old liver a chance to catch up

That's an impressive amount of sand to get inside it, I get the feeling it wasn't at idle when it swallowed the water.

Re: Land Rover Rustorashun
I reckon it was quite a bit above idle
just picture the comedy moment as the engine locks solid while mucky water rains down and the poor old pilot yells BOLLOCKS at the top of his voice

Re: Land Rover Rustorashun
I've seen it done with lesser engines, but not a V8. Still comedy gold though.

Re: Land Rover Rustorashun
here we go folks, I should update more often! sorry about that
Here I am cutting holes and steel for the rear damper mounts on Sandy the Landy 109 project. They had mysteriously been cut off and ground flat!?! Fuel tank had to come off to weld the damper mounts on and was leaking anyway, terminally so. New tank is on order The chassis is not unlike every other 40 year old Landie chassis! Patches over patches. Most of this passed Mr Tappy test of destruction, one hole opened up though Trip home to take perambulation in my back garden allowed me to relocate Staaaag back to Devon. These two designs are celebrating 50 years since launch this month Crank from hydrolocked v8 I am sure is scrap - It needs crack testing and a fairly aggressive regrind. Rover v8s are not exactly sparse so I think it will be dead Jacked up for welding nipped up to the Exmoor pub to pick up more beer supply. Frederick Albert Hitler - Pub Cat rolled out the welcome wagon Ended up cutting off three patches to make one repair. Underneath was pretty solid finished and painted Next up is pulling this Holley off Redshed and fitting a set of Strommies More to follow - din dins first

An excellent Pub Cat !
Still in Lockdown up here so meeting Pub Cats is something for the future.
If the shocker mounts had been ground off what on earth were the shockers fitted to?

Re: Land Rover Rustorashun
Part 2
The holley sits on an Offenhouser 360 Manifold. New redshed owner wants it original. This kit is going to sit nicely on project Bob To release the inlet manifold from Red Shed's engine, I had to loosen a rocker cover, Engine looks nice and cleanish inside... Strommies bolted straight up and after a fiddle and a new old stock fan belt - which I found in amongst the crap in the back of RedShed allowed me to drive it to the top of the field Dad's 72 Rangie lost it's rear silencer over the winter, a stock check found a pair of used suitable candidates. Stag hood catch is broken, after 48 years it has given up. Holley strip down and clean started Onto Bob the bobtail project, getting the chassis sorted out is next These are the gearbox mounts of bob the bobtailed Range Rover - when did you last see branded metalastic bushes? Part 3 to follow

Re: Land Rover Rustorashun
part 3
Spirit Level, right angle and tape measure helped me get the front bumper mounts aligned and welded back to the chassis Welded on 3 sides, I will weld the underside when it is off the axles and upside down. Welding 3mm steel upside down is no fucking fun whatsoever ground back and it is almost like neither myself nor the last vandal to own this car have been there passenger side engine mount is a disaster zone of pigeon snot just look at all this shit! Carb is responding well to strip, clean and ultrasonic tank here is the engine mount cut off the passenger rail, most of this stuff fell off, no weld penetration and flapped back, just need a donor chassis now rear sill mounts were liberated from the arse end of the chassis. Looking to fix these next week then the bobtail extension was cut free! The original chassis is really clean inside. Someone proper vandalised a tidy Range Rover here. Going to be a laugh getting it back to one bit The End... for now
