Wonder if you couldn't adapt some dropsides to that bed - keeping the bulkhead end as stanchions. I guess you would have to beef the floor up though...

I think for now the plan is to remove the bed, sort the U section chassis section and get a ticket on it. It may have a tray back made up as a temporarily permanent solution as today this happened.mercrocker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 12:59 pm Wonder if you couldn't adapt some dropsides to that bed - keeping the bulkhead end as stanchions. Wob Loads of flexible Wob!
A couple of phone calls have been made to see if someone local can produce a new floor resembling the original, less the shallowing at the end of the ribs. I may have a go at the U section needed or it's possible the bloke in the unit next to the truck may be able to do it. If it ends up as a tray back for a while wooden dropsides could well be an option.
Unfortunately there are now an awful lot of spot welds to deal with. I've got another spot weld drill on the way and might just buy a cheap air hammer too.

The way the beds constructed and has since been welded to the bulkhead made the choices really. Originally the bed sides and floorpan were constructed off the vehicle, then dropped in place and spot welded to all the chassis members, not bolted which is an absolute arse. As it's a U section chassis I wouldn't be happy cutting a section out and just welding a new piece in as the floor isn't exactly thick or in the best of conditions so I think it's best to remove it.

The floor certainly needs a sweep now!
It's really not as bad as it looks. Most of the chassis sections are ok by the looks of it, the bulkhead is intact and it's in good nick under the bonnet, inner wings etc. It could do with a couple of new wings as they've been clagged some time ago but they could be tidied and painted to make them presentable. The new owner was looking rather daunted by the end of the afternoon, probably not helped by the number of rollies he'd smoked as it was his day off.
Toolstation do a SIP air chisel for 20 quid with the right type of chisel so I think I'll get one of those after more carefully removing the end sections of the bed so as to keep the tapered ends of the ribs intact. Once I set about it with an air chisel that bed is certainly going to be fucked!

I've taken a punt on a new toy too. Not cheap but thought I'd try one out as an alternative to a twisted knot cup brush/peperami grinder attachment
I just had a quick play on something I made the other day and initial thoughts are it's not too bad. We'll see how long it lasts.

Could you graft a body off a Navara or something on it?
