Re: Rusty Triumphs in Scotland
Well mine, like many others survived because they were bought by elderly people who gave up driving then the cars were parked up in the garage then discovered many years later

Re: Rusty Triumphs in Scotland
I'd say the SD3 was a worse car for rot, there are certainly less left now although I'm not sure they sold as well in the first place to be fair. I'm not sure it rots any faster than a Dolomite, although the steel used is much thinnerDodgeRover wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 8:49 am I really can't beleive any of these have survived they rotted faster than a rover 213/ 216!
CLINT is right in saying the survival of a surprising number of clean examples surviving is because they were popular with giffers, did few miles and were well looked after. How mine managed to survive almost it's whole life in regular use in Aberdeenshire I do not know...
That blue/red example looks like a spares car to me, I bet the rear wheel tubs are shot. Personally I'd want the headrests (rare in that colour), fusebox lid and the mudflaps..

I inherited a 213 low miles (20k from memory) and kept in a heated garage from 6 months old, it wanted welding and wheel arches at 6 or 7 years old when I got it.

Ok well I'll keep an eye on it. Can't bid on it personally as I'm banned from eBay though. I do have a trailer so collection is no big issue.
The SD3 was way worse for rot than most cars. Exclaims were diagnosed but only in places you would expect. SD3s rotted in all sorts of odd places as well as the usual ones

Re: Rusty Triumphs in Scotland
I have chucked a 50 quid bid on the Acclaim. I don't mind buying it and breaking it as long as I can get my money back off it. I quite enjoy sending rare stuff to the crusher as it annoys the hell out of some keyboard warriors. Crushing a right hand drive Renault 14 was very satisfying. Giving the RO80 bodyshell to a banger racer was almost as good.

Re: Rusty Triumphs in Scotland
My other half (who's car it is really) found out it had sold for £100 on gumtree earlier today. She is on the Triumph Acclaim Appreciation Group. Shame, I would have given that for it.

Re: Rusty Triumphs in Scotland
I had my bid cancelled for some reason. I will have a look at the relisted one.
There we go back on it as high bidder, what's it worth by the way ?
