Re: How to buy a car in the lockdown. Bentley Turbo R
I put a few hundred miles on the Bentley this weekend and it is going to need a bit of work next week. Somehow I have lost a headlamp washer jet cover and the brakes are juddering really badly when braking from high speed. I will stick it on the brake rollers tomorrow and see which discs are warped. Flying spares owe me 300 quid at the moment for the surcharge on some bits for a Silver Shadow I have in the workshop this week so hopefully the discs won't be too painful. I put new pads in not long ago so at least I know the calipers are ok unless it's the rears that are vibrating. I should also think about servicing it as it hasn't been done for a while even though the oil still looks like new.

Barum engineering are the bunch of idiots that rebored a midget engine for me. When I put it back together it kept locking up as they didn't actually bore all the way down one cylinder. They stopped a couple of mm before the bottom on one cylinder and the piston skirt bottomed out. I will not be using them again. It has been really hard to find a good engineering company down here who do good work at sensible prices. Auto services in Exeter did the Thunderbird engine and seem to be pretty good, they have two old guy's there who really know their stuff.richardthestag wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 10:56 pm Barum enginnering in Barnstaple do such stuff for £15

Aye, reliable trustworthy and quality places are now hard to find. I think you have to be prepared to travel these days if you want a good job doing.

I will update a bit tomorrow as it has had new discs now and I had the old ones sorted to sell them to a customer with a silver shadow. I have got to finish the shadow brake rebuild in the morning so will update the Bentley pictures from last week. It's my birthday in a couple of weeks so hopefully the other half will find us somewhere nice to stay and I can give the old thing a run out again. I am off looking at another P38 on Monday fingers crossed it will be better than the last heap.

I think the 38a has matured much better than the L322.

Re: How to buy a car in the lockdown. Bentley Turbo R
Ok here are a few pictures as over the last 2 weekends I have given the Bentley a full service and new front discs. The old discs looked fine but it had quite a judder on them. The new discs went on my car and I had the old ones resurfaced to go on a customers silver shadow. All pretty simple and yes that is 10 bolts holding each disc on, the only issue I had was one brake pipe started to leak after I disturbed it. New one made up and all bled through. Even the plugs were pretty easy for a V8. Fuel filter was really easy and I got a cheap K&N air filter fitted.
The old discs went on this Silver Shadow that is just about finished now just waiting for new pads. It was a bit of a fight as all the small brake pipes wouldn't come undone and one of the hoses stripped it's thread so I had a trip to Exeter to get a new hose from the Rolls Royce dealer.
