Re: Hideous Yank
Well done on saving this from the brambles.
What's the back story on this yank on U.K. plates in France?

"What's the back story on this yank on U.K. plates in France?"
It was bought over by another expat who didn't understand the registration process.
He gave up and flogged it to the dodgy geezer I bought it from. Said dodgy geezer had had it for at least 4 years.
Now it's over 30 years old (or will be in October) the registration process is much simplified.
Cars (particularly non EU) that have never previously been approved for sale in France can be a nightmare to register if less than 30 years old. They have to be inspected and things like non CE marked glass, lenses and seatbelts can fall foul of the rules.
I've started the paperwork and not met any problems yet.

Re: Hideous Yank
I called in to see tame mechanic on my way home.
All the bits I've bought fit perfectly ☺. Except the rotor arm for a 1993 Volvo which had somehow been included in my shipment.
Engine now sounds really sweet, I thought it was good before, but it's proper smooth now. Autobox is definitely smoother with fresh fluid and filter.
Tomorrow the underside is getting jet washed, then weather permitting on Thursday it's getting waxoilyed.
Might even get CT on Friday.

Re: Hideous Yank
Can't find where the PCV valve goes yet though... maybe that's for a 1993 Volvo too.

No dizzy on this, it's all new-fangled electronics.
In other news a Controle Technique has been achieved Tame mechanic cleaned it before the test, it scrubbed up pretty good.

Re: Hideous Yank
Interesting the side slip / tracking allowance and brake efficiency. (Still not part of MoT?)
In Ireland the side slip allowed on the front is +/- 14 m/km at the front and +/-18 m/km at the rear. It's a straight pass or major defect.
The brake efficiency requirement is 55% for M1 vehicles before 28/07/2010, after that 58%. (UK M1 50% up to 01/09/2010 and after 58%)
So much for harmonising tests....
