Well. I haven't updated this in a fucking while have I?
Dolly first and we shall start with bodywork:
Rotten in all the usual Dolly places and tons of bodgery present which had only served to make everything far worse.
In short:
Entire front end was rotten, mostly from the inside out, headlight retaining panels and the inner sections which tie the front valance to the wings was entirely missing. The end caps of the chassis rails had rotted out causing water and shit to get inside the legs and rot the leading edges out from the inside up to the subframe mounts. The O/S side had already been patched. The front valance had been partially cut off and another one braised on top, this had also rotted out: The front inner arch area up to the bulkhead was rotted out on both sides (worst on the O/S), various patches had been applied, including welding the bolted-on splash guard to the inner arch with a patch... The front jacking points were rotten (again, O/S the worst) and the ends of the sills were also rotten through where water and crap had gotten in. The mid sections of the sills were actually too bad, they were pumped full of wax as well... The rear of the sills was where things really started getting fun...
The O/S I had repaired by the local garage after the car came down from Aberdeenshire before it was MOT exempt. It was tapped with a hammer: Filler over an unpainted patch that was vaguely tack welded to another, older patch, the inner sill was fucked as was the reinforcing panel and the jacking point was missing entirely.
The other side was just crafted out of filler and expanding foam. Moving on to the outer arches. These were repair panels riveted on top of the original arches. Once removed the remains weren't pretty. Once these were cut out the inner arches were even less pretty... Finally the boot floor was rotten in the corners.
So given that I'm a perpetually skint failure who can't afford any of the repair panels on offer by the TDC and that not only is the car rotten through but also features a destroyed engine and a 138,000 mile drivetrain + even a mint 1300 is only worth £5k the only sensible option was to repair everything with fresh metal while fabricating very nearly everything.
That's how this works right?

the only way with something like this is getting rid of past bodges and getting it back to factory spec.
You have some serious cahoonas for getting all 4 corners stripped out, But at least you know the full scale and the project! It can only get better with each step from now on

Your ship will come in. It amazes me how cars can hide so much rot and still feel quite solid and safe when driving. There must be so much safety margin even in unitary construction. Things can only get better now, although it's quite a shock seeing the car you once drove intact stripped right back, it's for the best as the serious work gets done, not piecemeal running repairs. I expect like my Morris this will be a 'for ever' car once you've completed it.

I've known a few people who pay for a full restoration on a classic car every 10-15 years & they use it as their main car. In their view, it's about the cost of buying a new car every time but they get to drive something they like & enjoy.
By doing it that often it means nothing is too bad as the car is still useable when it goes in.
