How many years have I being saying that Honda build the best engines???The Reverend Bluejeans wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 9:26 pm Look no further than the 1.8 in the 2006 on spaceship Civic. Now there is an example of how to build an engine. It’s the benchmark and Ze Germans cannot come close to. Look at all the sorry toss they’ve come out with since 06. N46, N43, TFSI and shit like that.
My mate - who spanners for BMW - has a 2008 RAV4 with 140k and not a single oil leak. And the original battery.

Shame about the gearbox attached to that Honda engine. Also not the most torquey of lumps nor very lively at low revs thanks to the economy nature of the engine. Much prefer the 2.2ctdi diesel or might as well go full fat with the CTR. Unfortunately the CTR in that generation was only a 2dr.The Reverend Bluejeans wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 9:26 pm Look no further than the 1.8 in the 2006 on spaceship Civic. Honda gearboxes, manual or auto, needed fluid changes every 2 years. Do that and they'd be fine. But nobody did and yet they were still (mainly) fine.

The box was nice on the red one I had. I didn’t change the oil. The engine had adjustable tappets as well. I checked them and after 120k they were still ok. It wasn’t a scintillating drive but a good tool for a job. Having just seen the back of a troublesome oil leaking Audi A4 the same age as the Civic, I’m not a fan of kraut krap.

VAG Shite.
Those Honda tappets never, even need adjustment, even after 200k miles on a thrashed pool car.

They're fine until they're suddenly not. But then VAG 6speeds of similar age aren't exactly brilliant either.

Gf had an '03 civic 1.6 when I met her (along with an NA MX-5). The first time she picked me up in it, it was whining it's tits off (the car not her)
I was like 'what the fuck is that noise?!. She didn't know what I was on about as she'd got so used to it. It never broke and we chopped it in for a '55 1.6 seven seat scenic.
