What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

That S type looks ok, the oem xenon headlights would be a must have for me. It’s the later model with dpf fitted. That is the engine that eats cranks when fitted to a Disco but a lot of Disco owners are using S type ones as replacements. Never heard of one breaking in a Jag.

Things to look out for would be if the cam belts have been done and how rusty it is.

Also these aren’t as economical as you’d hope.

it should go quite well, I've driven a 2.7TD XJ a few times & it was quite quick at main road speeds. Bloody awful truck like noise around town though.

That must have been a bad one. My first XJ 350 was the 2.7 Diesel - it was very quiet and smooth everywhere.

The S-type is heavy though compared to the Aluminium XJ so performance and economy suffer a bit.

I have a road test somewhere where Autocar (I think) compared it to the contemporary Diesel 5 Series and rated the Jag above the BMW.

Moar trivia - really early S type diesels with the turned down exhausts are non-DPF.

There's a manual version - 6 speed box, Diesel only - hard to find but there are a few about.

It was a bit of a shed as courtesy car, so you may well be right.

Second cambelts and rear belts too, gearbox flush, awkward side egr coolers and leaking fuel filter hose connectors.

Not sure if the S suffer from cracked cat flexi pipes but weld ons fox that.

Cracking engine but change oil more often than you are told as they dilute it so don’t fill past the mid point.

Less annoying tag line.
Just when I thought I was out they dragged me back in.

I know! It like it's not even there!

Honestly it's a crunchy as fuck and really started to come off when I had to go to two stupid chicken farms today. While the roads to them were concrete they hade some giant unavoidable holes. Think it's about time I used a different car for work. Can't have another though as apparently '6 cars is enough'...

I started the punto. The fan belt squealed then went quiet then black smoke billowed out of the engine compartment.

The alternator was covered in ice. The car had been sitting under a blanket of snow that had gone through a couple of melt in the sun, freeze solid overnight cycles and the double digit sub zero temps of last night left it completely frozen.
