There's also a yellow Ducati 748 which piqued my interest, although a red 916 was my dream bike in my biker days.

Does this need an MOT when imported before going exempt, or are they automatically exempt when imported?

What's realistically left to get the paperwork sorted? Says Nova needs sorting. I'd thought they'd have sorted that?

The Ad isn't very well worded because it wouldn't of been released from customs without a NOVA. He isn't registering it as he doesn't want to add and extra owner to the V5. I always register my imports as I kind of want to drive them before selling them on and it is the only legal way of doing that. As long as the car is over 40 years old you just fill in the mot exemption form and add it to the V55/5 form, an insurance certificate, original title or other registration document, proof of identity and proof of address. Stick all this in a big envelope and send to the DVLA. It is taking around 6 weeks at the moment and they have currently suspended inspections but expect that to come back in with more delays once the pandemic is over. Bringing stuff in from the states you get an agent who deals with the Nova for you so it is all done straight away and any tax is worked out and has to be paid before the car is released. What will happen with European imports I am not so sure. As I am vat registered I have access to the NOVA online portal and have been doing them myself once the car has arrived. This might of changed though and there is a chance you have to do the NOVA at the ports but that would create long delays. The sensible option would be to do the NOVA online as soon as you purchase the car and have all the paperwork done ready for when you get to the port. Either way it makes personally importing a car from Europe a lot harder, hopefully by the time travel is opened back up again they will of sorted out a lot of the hold ups and simplified importing cars but we will have to wait and see. My latest import is coming from America more because the shipping is easier and actually cheaper than going to Spain or southern France at the moment. I still want to get another Spanish hearse at some point as I have found you can get a Seat 132 with the lovely twin cam in it that should be fun, but when the shipping quote was over twice what I am paying to get the Corvette here that just isn't happening. Maybe when flights resume I will have another look into buying in Spain.

Interesting. See that's what I thought that most of the paperwork must have been done for it to be sat in his yard in the UK.

I did also suspect that he didn't do the final registration as it allows a quicker sale. If it took an additional 6 weeks after it's landed for the paperwork to complete, that's 6 weeks sat unsold waiting.

The chap has some interesting stuff come through. All are projects and need work, but all seem reasonably priced (imo). Not bargains, but affordable. Seems to make a living doing it. Admittedly some of the cars sit around for quite a while - like the Saabs he's got in.

Still probably cheaper to import yourself, however unless you're on the ground, I'm not sure I'd want to spunk that sort of money without seeing it in person.

Maybe we should convince PhilA to be the man on the ground locating us old Yank junk 😁

Hi prices are pretty fair as you have to factor in 2k shipping so he won't be making a lot out of that truck. It does look like a bit of a money pit though and the added fuel cell would have me running away as there must be a problem with the tank and if they couldn't source and fit one easily whilst it was over there then there will be little hope of it being a cheap fix over here.
The blue Corvette was one I looked at when pricing up if the one I bought was a good idea. I would say it's about the same condition as mine but the earlier rear window arrangment. I hope he does get his 10k as it means I stand a chance of getting the money back on mine if things go tits up.

As long as they aren't modified, they can run as exempt straight away.
Some "repairs" in the USA would not be acceptable here though - and in some states the inspection is lax or non-existent (some places don't even require the car to have wipers fitted!).
Handbrakes are often marginal as not everyone bothers to use them.
So it may be wise to look over it or get someone to do it just to make sure it's UK-road legal.

TBF I don't bother using a handbrake when I have a parking pawl.

I wonder who could do that locally to me 🤔

In truth I'm only window shopping at the moment. I know a sub 10k Yank is going to be a project. There is enough of them already in a queue here. Thinking post when I get the backlog down a bit.
