Re: Automotive monopolies
Indeed, it is immediately to the left of the shops stalked by Hooli in that picture I posted of Mrs Rocker on a bike.

Re: Automotive monopolies
Good blokes they are, at least one of them is from the sadly departed Factors almost next to my house. Unfortunately it is a mail order/local delivery operation now, no counter.

Until recently we had four branches here in Wirral but now only the Heswall shop remains open.Scruffy Bodger wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 6:22 pmI'm very surprised they still exist at all. They used to be good many moons ago but then went the way of only seeming to sell stick on tat. The couple local to me went years ago.
Does anyone else remember their early 80s rival called Motorists Discount Centre? They had TV adverts fronted by cunt Fiat Strada hating cunt and elephant shooting cunt Noel Edmonds?

Old school car spares shops really are on their way out sadly.
I miss twirling the Lucas Oil Stabiliser demo display unit on the counter while waiting for the shop assistant with a permanent sniff hunts for the set of brake pads I've asked for in the back room.

And car mats hanging from the ceiling like carcasses of meat in a butcher's shop.
The Sparkright electronic ignition display unit that I managed to blow up.
A row of thick parts catalogues on the counter for everything from exhausts to bulbs.
I even miss main agent parts managers who had an encyclopedic knowledge of part numbers and enjoyed the challenge of finding exactly what you needed on microfiche. My local Ford dealer had such a man called Dave Creed who seemed to know every part from every model dating back to the 105E Anglia.

Re: Automotive monopolies
Apparently one in Southampton too.
I really like the one in Newbury. Not only had sheet steel for welding but even a sealed beam on the shelf.
Edit: It appears the Newbury one has closed down since last year
