The Cuckoos of Automotive History - Developed by one brand, built by another

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Probably. I was going on the old-fashioned memory there. Sorry.

LDV needed to replace its shit old Sherpas. They got chatting to Daewoo and started a joint venture. Daewoo went tits up, GM got the motors stuff and GM flogged the half-baked van project to LDV on the cheap.

As a bully bonus, later down the line the Chinese got hold of it and to show their amazing sense of humour, recycled it and churned out many variants including the MG V80.

I quite like these vans and the big 120 bhp crew cab one I bought by accident was a pretty nice drive other than trying to find gears,
It was a right shit to sell though, time wasters galore.

it was designed by karen ogle of ogle design im sure it as meant to have the v8 daimler engine as an option.
Yes, the shape of the Scimitar was first submitted by Ogle as the SX250 for a Helena Rubenstein cosmetic company director. It was based on the Daimler SP250 chassis with its Edward Turner V8. Although Daimler expressed interest in it as a possible replacement for the SP the recent takeover by Jaguar shifted focus away from the 2 seater sports car in the company's lineup. Eventually Reliant took the design on, mating it to their Sabre chassis as a replacement for that model. This of course used the straight six Ford rather than a V8....

An obvious one, perhaps, but Shelby developed the Cobra way beyond it's AC Ace origins. Likewise Caterham with the Lotus Seven.

Yes, I know it began as a simple CKD exercise before being licence built. However, the development of the Morris Oxford into the Hindustan Ambassador was all the work of HM themselves, taking the car from an otherwise forgotten medium Fifties saloon into a national Indian icon. One that for many years epitomized motoring across the sub-continent and became far removed from its roots.

I suppose the Porsche 924 deserves an honourable mention, since it was originally intended to be built by VW under Porsche supervision.

Here's a Porsche 924 DP Cargo, one of less than a dozen made by Porsche tuning specialist DP Motorsport:

On the road:
1998 Disco 4.0 V8 (manual)
1994 Vauxhall Calibra 3.0 V6

Running but need fettling:

1986 Honda CBX750F
1991 Maserati 222 SE
1990 Yamaha XJ900F

Tax & MOT-exempt, woohoo!

1982 Suzuki GSX1100SZ Katana
