Re: The Astraslag TDW Slut Car Thread
I'm surprised that a sub 100K motor is so down on compression. It still hit the stated max speed of 112 mph on the GPS when I had it. The engine idles perfectly stable and was as silent as a fish when I had it.bub2006 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 1:53 pm Following on from my grumpy post. The pressure sensor was pissing oil out and when wires were wiggled the light went off. New sensor fitted at a staggering price of 7 quid. Still has a bit of hunting at idle and after doing a compression test, cylinder 4 plug was a darker colour than the rest and that cylinder is 15psi down of the others. The information online states 217 psi standard but the astra is at 175 across 3 cylinders and 150 on number 4.
Is the engine smoking more than I do?

Re: The Astraslag TDW Slut Car Thread
I thought everyone knew Vauxhalls are renowned for shitting oil pressure sensors. Mainly the little 3 cylinders though. I think the ratio of sensors fitted to Vauxhalls to other makes in my 35 years in the trade must be over 20 to 1. As we all know "all vauxhalls are shit". I found an AS sticker in my draweer the other day with that on, must of been when I had the Senator hearse. I also found an AS dealer sticker in there obviously from a time when I actually enjoyed being a part of AS before the fun police ruined it.

Out of the 40+ cars I've owned,I've not had many Vauxhalls. Wife had 3 vec C 1.8 and a Corsa b 3 pot. I've had a Corsa b 3 pot, vec C 1.8,vec b 1.6 auto and the astra. I think.panhard65 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 10:38 am I thought everyone knew Vauxhalls are renowned for shitting oil pressure sensors. Mainly the little 3 cylinders though. There's always some smoke even when warm and ticking over. It's not thick though if you get me. It doesn't smell oily either, more like petrol and rather sweet. The hydrocarbons were high on the MOT too so maybe the cheap cat that was fitted with the fox incident would explain it.Warren t claim wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 4:46 amI'm surprised that a sub 100K motor is so down on compression. My mechanic friend was under the car and said did you know you have a self lubricating subframe? It was just pissing oil down onto it.Hooli wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 9:41 amTold ya to start with the sensor didn't I?bub2006 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 1:53 pm Following on from my grumpy post.
