This one is an 8v. X16 szr single point with 72 ish hp.
I'm surprised that a sub 100K motor is so down on compression. It still hit the stated max speed of 112 mph on the GPS when I had it. Out of the 40+ cars I've owned,I've not had many Vauxhalls. Wife had 3 vec C 1.8 and a Corsa b 3 pot. I've had a Corsa b 3 pot, vec C 1.8,vec b 1.6 auto and the astra. There's always some smoke even when warm and ticking over. It's not thick though if you get me. It doesn't smell oily either,more like petrol and rather sweet. My mechanic friend was under the car and said did you know you have a self lubricating subframe?
