Re: Wobland Spottage
Apparently Peterborough Co-op trialled a bunch of diesel J vans when the B series first appeared in this guise. The Austin was retro-fitted with a much improved 1.8 version, but even with it's overdrive fifth gear, and Westminster diff it's like sticking your head in Bonham's bass drum. Before he pegged it, obviously.

Re: Wobland Spottage
They really are the most horrid things, to be honest.....The cab tapers to a point of uncomfortable intimacy (always assuming there is actually a passenger seat), 45 mph sounds like a knackered Bedford CF doing 85 with a full load of unsecured scrap metal and the driving seat always reminded me of those contraptions barbers used to put across their chairs for kids to sit on. The one or two I have had acquaintance with also seemed to be lacking in any connectivity between steering wheel and the rock-hard front crossplies.....
There is an electrician in our town who has had about a dozen of these vans over the past 30 years or more. They are his only transport and are out in all weathers - they gradually disintegrate like a cardboard box left out in the rain.
In their favour, I suppose, must lie the very origins of the modern urban delivery van though....

J van, gr8 for knocking down Daleks in the year 2150 after first filling the sump with Castrol.

Re: Wobland Spottage
Isn't that the episode where a Dalek self-exterminated rather than drive a J?

Not sure, but I think it is more plausible as sci-fi than it first appears, as an inverted future world where Sugar Puffs are available once more.
