The Indians I worked with as a consultant were the same.
It was continually a game of one-upmanship, especially with the company cars. They were completely flummoxed when I took a car allowance and ran a 5 year old Punto that used to be my missus s rather than have a ML270 or similar. It did the job I needed it to and my missus had a new A140 for ferrying the kids around and to Norfolk.
